First Time Driving a Jet Ski

Route: 📍Hebe Haven -> Hong Kong University of Science & Technology -> Outward Bound School -> Tsam Chuk Wan -> Yim Tin Pan -> Pak Sha Tsui -> Kau Sai Wan -> Hong Kong University of Science & Technology -> Hebe Haven Yacht Club
It’s a good thing that the weather is sunny every single time when we do water sports. This time, my friend and I rented a jet ski for two hours. We departed from Hebe Haven after wearing life jackets. It was amazing that we arrived near HKUST in the blink of an eye. The area was larger than Hebe Haven and was safer for beginners, so our coach let us drive the jet ski.
Driving a jet ski is not that difficult. To start a jet ski, press the green (‘on’) button for a while. Grip the throttle lever on the right handlebar to move forward. To slow down or stop the jet ski, just let go of the throttle lever. I found it hard to control the handlebars and wriggled unintentionally. I can’t swim. So, to play safe, I limited my speed to around 20-30km/hr. It was like riding merry-go-round. However, if you want excitement just like my friend, whose speed was 50-60km/hr., you will feel like riding a roller coaster in heavy rain.
I can still recall our coach invited us to have a bowl of noodles with luncheon meat and egg when we arrived in Yim Tin Pan. I just couldn't imagine eating it in the middle of the sea. It turned out that it is culture to have noodles and fresh seafood on mariculture rafts. So, no worries if you feel hungry halfway through the trip.
Even though I can’t swim, riding a jet ski is safer than I expected. Hopefully, I can also try other exciting water sports like kayaking in the future.
